Elvis Kargbo Esq

Elvis Kargbo currently serves as the Head of Chambers, Managing Partner, and Lead Consultant at the firm. His expertise lies in Corporate Law, Land Law, Family Law, Civil Procedure, Commercial Law, Taxation Law, Employment/Labour Law, Banking, and Industrial related matters. Within the realm of labour matters, he represents clients and formulates terms and conditions of services at the Industrial Court of Sierra Leone and for the firm’s retained clients, respectively.

He has a strong track record of success in resolving industrial disputes. Additionally, he also holds the position of Chief Examiner for all legal subjects at The National Council for Technical and Vocational Awards (NCTVA) Examinations in Sierra Leone.

In 2013, Mr. Kargbo served as the president of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, displaying effective and diligent leadership. Acknowledging his exemplary service in the Bar Association and the Judiciary as a whole, he was appointed as a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public in Sierra Leone.

He has previously served as the Chairman of the General Legal Council (GLC) and is still an active member of the Council, contributing to the admission, enrollment, practice, and discipline of Legal Practitioners.

Mr. Kargbo holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honors from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College. In addition, he obtained an Utter Barrister Certificate from the Sierra Leone Law School.

He furthered his academic pursuits with a Post Graduate Diploma and Master of Laws Degree in Business Law from DE Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom. With over 22 years of dedicated legal practice, he continues to make substantial contributions to the legal profession.

Ashmia Fofanah Ms

Ashmia Fofanah Ms. is a highly qualified legal professional with a strong background in various areas of law. With a Bachelor of Laws LLB (Honours) from the prestigious University of Sierra Leone Fourah Bay College in 2009 and an Utter Barrister (BL) from Sierra Leone Law school obtained in 2010, Ashmia has demonstrated a solid foundation in legal education. She has attained a Postgraduate certificate in Trafficking in Person from West Africa Regional Training Centre, Accra, Ghana, by the U.S International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. She also obtained Postgraduate certificate in international law from Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL): China-AALCO Exchange and Research Program. Beijing and Hong Kong. She has been trained with a Certificate in Arbitration, Principles of Mediation, and Introduction to oil and gas M&A from the General Legal Council (Sierra Leone) in collaboration with Project Umubano Justice. She holds a Training certificate in Legal Aid Implementation from Legal Aid South Africa: Johannesburg and Durban.

Since being called to the Bar in 2010, Ashmia has built an extensive expertise in property law, criminal law, corporate law, international law and family law. As a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone, she has consistently provided exceptional legal counsel to her clients, achieving favorable results in complex legal matters.

Moreover, Ashmia has served as a Principal Compliance Officer for both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation and the Ministry of health and Sanitation.

In addition to her legal experience, Ashmia has also held several positions within the legal community. She served as the Special Executive Assistant, Assistant Secretary General, and Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Bar Association in 2013, 2016, and 2017 respectively. Joanne M. Tucker Esq

Joanne M. Tucker is a lawyer with nine years of practice experience. While she specializes in Family Law, her expertise extends to various other legal domains.

Joanne's commitment to justice and the legal profession is underscored by her significant role at Prisons Watch, an organization dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to individuals who cannot afford legal representation. Her work with Prisons Watch has not only enriched her legal skills but also exemplified her dedication to access to justice.

A passionate advocate for children's rights, Joanne M. Tucker is deeply involved in National and International organizations focused on the welfare of children. She serves as a Board member and Chairperson in several of these organizations, including Develop Africa, Hagar Sanctuary, Children of the Nations, etc., actively contributing to policies and initiatives that protect and promote the well-being of young minds.

Daniel Jeremiah Lavally Esq

Bachelor of Arts Degree in History

Daniel Jeremiah Lavally Esq is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone practicing Civil procedure and Criminal law, Land law, family law, and Corporate Law. He was called to the Sierra Leonean Bar on the 4th November, 2011. He holds a Higher Teachers Certificate in Secondary Education (HTC, SEC) from the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Linguistics, Politics, and Bible Religious Studies (BRS) from Fourah Bay College. He also bagged a second Bachelor’s Degree in Law from 2006 to 2010 from the FBC.

In 2010 to 2011, he got an Utter Barrister Certificate from the Sierra Leone Law School. He is currently pursuing his Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Makeni, in International Law (Human Rights Law, Environmental and Climate Change Laws, Investment Law, International Criminal Law Between February 2019 to February 2021, he served as Law Enforcement Manager at the National Protected Area Authority. In his years of practice.

He also served as Duty Counsel for LAWYERS and the Sierra Leone Legal Aid Board, where he engaged in several legal activities such as Advocacy and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He was a partner at the law firm of Berewa and Co from 2012 to 2016, when he joined the law firm of Betts and Berewa Solicitors as senior partner. He has practiced law in Sierra Leone for over 11 years. He is currently the Registrar at the Sierra Leone Law School.

Joseph Magnus French Esq

Mr. French is a Senior Partner of Betts and Berewa Solicitors. He was called to the Bar in 2015. He is an expert in Criminal Law, Human Rights, Administration of Estates, Customary Law, and an advocate for prisoners' Rights. He has served as Legal Aid Coordinator, Prisons-Watch Sierra Leone/ UNDP Legal Aid Scheme, (PWSL) EU Legal Aid Scheme, Prisons Watch SL/ OSIWA Legal Aid Scheme since 2015 to date.

Me. French is also a Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.

He is a Ph.D. Candidate at the aforesaid University. He holds a master's Degree in Sociology from Njala University, Bachelor of Laws ( Second Class First Division) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Bachelor of Arts (General) (Division One) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Certificate in Psychological Care & Social Work from the Institute of Public Administration & Management (University of Sierra Leone), Higher Teacher Certificate in Secondary Education from the Milton Margai Teachers College and an Utter Barrister Certificate from Sierra Leone Law School. Fatmata Jarai Karim Esq

Fatmata Jaria Karim is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone; a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and a degree utter Barrister (BL) from the Sierra Leone Law School.

She was called to the bar in 2021. Since being called to the Bar in 2021, Fatmata joined the firm of Betts and Berewa Solicitors as a legal associate, and she has experience in general legal practice and extensive expertise in property law, criminal law, civil law, corporate law, and family law.

Mabel Adama Kamara Esq

Adama Mabel kamara Esq is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone and she currently holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Sierra Leone; LLB (Hons.) from the University of Makeni, a private Catholic University in Sierra Leone; and an Utter Barrister from Sierra Leone Law School.

He is one of the youngest lawyers attached to BETTS AND BEREWA SOLICITORS. He does pro-bono cases for the Legal Aid Board of Sierra Leone, handles Alternative Dispute Resolution Cases among family members. He is also the legal retainer for reputable international and national NGOs like Commit and Act Foundation SL, Network of Youth on Climate and Entrepreneurship, Human Relief Foundation SL, and many more. He has also received numerous awards, such as Best Debater for the Law Basket, and YALI serves 2019 Champion.

Abdulai Elvis Momoh Kargbo Esq

Mr. Abdulai Elvis Momoh Kargbo holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College in 2019. Furthermore, he was admitted into the Sierra Leone Law School in the 2021-2022 academic year, where he passed the Bar Finals with flying colours. He was called to the Bar and received his Bar Finals Certificate on the 28th day of January 2022.

He has signed both the Temporary and Permanent Registers of the General Legal Council, which is the body responsible for the enrollment, admission, practice, and discipline of legal practitioners in Sierra Leone. Mr. Kargbo is a young, humble, astute, and erudite legal practitioner attached to Betts & Berewa Law Firm. Jane Elizabeth Tirah Konteh Esq

Jane Elizabeth Tirah Konteh is an Associate at Betts and Berewa Solicitors. She graduated top of her class in 2016 with a First Class Degree from the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College, with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Linguistics, and also top of her class from the University of Makeni with a First Class Degree in Bachelor of Laws in 2021. She now holds the Utter Barrister certificate from the Sierra Leone Law School upon completion of her Professional Bar Training Programme with a Class Two, Division Two result. She is in her Seventh month of pupillage and was called to the Bar as Fourth Best Student from her class on the 30th November, 2022. She has a passion for teaching and has manifested the same in renowned Secondary Schools in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where she taught English Language and literature-in-English both at Junior and Secondary School levels. She is a Gender Activist who helps to prevent violence against women and girls.

Ibrahim Jamil Sesay Esq

Ibrahim Jamil Sesay Esq is a Barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone. He got a bachelor's degree in Arts (LLB) from Fourah Bay College, the University of Sierra Leone (FBC-USL).

Giba Jalloh Esq is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Sierra Leone in April 2023.
